Gracie Brakeman (any pronouns) is a theatre maker and live events producer living in Oakland, CA on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone. She has worked at American Conservatory Theater, Shotgun Players, Z Space, American Repertory Theatre, Atlantic Theater Company, and Victory Gardens. Gracie graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in theatre and a business minor.
Gracie creates containers for artistic experiences that provoke unexpected connection through playful exploration. She is currently the Director of Production at Shotgun Players in Berkeley, where she joined the team to produce the immersively staged West Coast premiere of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 (SF Chronicle pick for best theater of 2022, extended 3 times!). Another favorite immersive credit is FAIR GAME: A Chicago Spectacle, a thriller set at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and staged across every nook and cranny of a three story building. Gracie also directed and choreographed The Donkey Show, a disco jukebox musical staged immersively in a 1970s discotheque. Gracie won a research grant to investigate best practices for consent-led audience experiences in immersive theater through this production.
Gracie’s favorite book is Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, her favorite video is Inside by Bo Burnham, and her favorite musician is Scary Pockets. In her spare time, you can find Gracie upside down training partner acrobatics, hanging from a trapeze, or contact improv dancing.
